Kirusa’s Voice SMS platform, built in New Delhi in 2009 on J2EE and MySQL, let users record and send compressed voice messages the way others sent SMS — aimed at users who found typing difficult or simply preferred speaking, and integrated by telecom providers directly into their existing networks. It reached 250M+ users at peak, and ran alongside a parallel engagement hardening Clickable’s PPC advertising platform (a TechCrunch Top 50 company) in Gurgaon.
